I want to share the story with the community here at the Cosmos Institute to inspire and gather feedback for future projects in writing science fiction that explores ethical questions in futurism.

Are footnotes, endnotes, references, etc. counted in the 2,500 word limit?
No, those can be incremental to the word limit
